I scheduled my portrait session after my heart surgery, which left a large angry red scar down my chest. I had been down and out, feeling defeated, suffering from anxiety and a lack of confidence.

Slowly I healed and got better but that scar, that huge scar took my breath away and not in a good way. I hid it for a while; it was a reminder that somehow I felt I had failed my body.

However, I wanted to wear my scar proudly and not hide it, so I chose to have a photoshoot.

During my photoshoot, Barbara created a safe space for me and I experienced a gamut of emotions, from joy and laughter to sorrow and tears.

Barbara captured me, my pain and my joy, my courage and my fears. She captured what I couldn’t see. I felt so beautiful!!!
